Homeland Security Depends On Duff-Norton’s New SuperCylinder™ Linear Actuators

Duff-Norton electro-mechanical actuators are the primary motion generating components in non-hydraulic vehicle barriers, also referred to as bollard posts. These devices are strategically positioned at vehicle entry points and the bollards are raised and lowered to control the traffic and protect people and property.

Vehicle barrier systems are used to protect high security installations such as military bases, airports, state and federal buildings, embassies, nuclear and coal fired power plants, and water treatment facilities. Other installations include private and public buildings, sports complexes, schools, and parking facilities.

Due to the government’s new requirement for high-speed bollard systems, our customer selected the performance and reliability of the new Duff-Norton SuperCylinder, which allows the bollards to be deployed in two seconds. Several of these new high-speed vehicle barrier systems are installed at Baghdad International Airport.

The Duff-Norton screw-drive SuperCylinder actuators are superior to hydraulic and pneumatic actuation devices because of their dependability. They are the preferred motion control product by the U.S. Government and others. Hydraulic and pneumatic devices can develop hose or seal leaks and may not function when a critical need arises.

Our new long life SuperCylinder actuators are used on many other linear motion applications and are capable of providing linear speeds up to 6 inches per second with capacities up to 25 tons. The SuperCylinder design provides an ideal replacement for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders.
