Configurations
There are three basic types of Rotary Unions: single flow, dual flow
with stationary siphon, and dual flow with rotating siphon. We refer to single
flow joints as P type; stationary siphon as S type, and rotating siphon as RS
or RSP type. The basic differences between these types are illustrated in the
diagrams below
Rotary Unions can be mounted by a shaft connection,
which could be a threaded end or a quick release end. In this case, the shaft
of the Rotary Union rotates with the machine to which it is attached, while the
housing remains stationary. This is typically the case for smaller joints.
For larger joints, the housing is typically mounted directly to the
machinery. A flange is used for this purpose. This helps to support the weight
of the joint. In this case, the housing of the joint rotates with the machine
to which it is attached, and the shaft remains stationary.
